Welcome to the website for the City of Chillicothe Law Director.
The City of Chillicothe Law Director is the chief legal officer for the City. The Law Director serves as the legal advisor to City Council, the Mayor, Department Heads, and all City boards and commissions. Duties include representing the city as its attorney in all civil matters, issuing legal opinions, preparing or approving all contracts, bonds, ordinances, resolutions or other written instruments concerning the city.

The Law Director also serves as the prosecuting attorney for all misdemeanor criminal cases in Chillicothe Municipal Court, which has jurisdiction for all misdemeanors occurring within Ross County. Cases range from minor misdemeanor offenses, such as speeding or disorderly conduct, to first degree misdemeanor offenses, such as driving under the influence or domestic violence.
The Law Director’s staff consists of five assistant law directors, four of whom are assigned to prosecution of the cases in Chillicothe Municipal Court and one of whom addresses civil matters, labor and employment issues, and other duties as assigned by the Law Director.

The Law Director’s office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of those holidays recognized by the City of Chillicothe.
